How Our Pigs Are Raised

Our pigs are rotationally grazed on pasture using natural farming techniques that prioritize animal health, soil vitality, and exceptional meat quality.

Their diet includes:

  • Fresh pasture grasses

  • Crop residues, roots, grubs, and forage

  • Supplemental certified organic feed

We do not use synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, antibiotics, or growth-promoting chemicals.

This slower, intentional approach allows the pigs to grow naturally, resulting in pork with superior flavor, texture, and fat quality. Our pork reflects these values—raised slowly, harvested with care, and offered in limited quantities.

Why Kune Kune Pork?

Kune Kune pigs are a heritage breed prized for their rich flavor and exceptional fat quality.

Unlike commercial pigs raised to harvest in 6–7 months, Kune Kunes are grown slowly—approximately 14 months—on pasture. This extended growth period allows the meat to develop naturally, producing pork that is:

  • Well-marbled

  • Tender and juicy

  • Deeply flavorful

Kune Kunes are smaller than conventional pigs, so cuts will be smaller than industrial pork. However, what they lack in size they more than make up for in flavor, richness, and usable fat. This pork is more filling, more satisfying, and meant to be cooked with care and shared at the table.

Recommended Cuts

Pork Chops

Well-marbled and tender. Smaller than conventional chops, but rich in flavor and best cooked gently.

Pork Roasts

Ideal for slow roasting or braising. Natural fat content keeps the meat moist and deeply flavorful.

Ground Pork

Versatile and full-flavored. Excellent for sausage, meatballs, stir-fries, and everyday meals.

Bacon

Rich, savory bacon with an excellent fat-to-meat balance. Renders beautifully and elevates any dish.

Pork Sausage

Made from well-marbled pork for superior texture and flavor. Perfect for breakfast, soups, and hearty meals.

Ribs

Smaller ribs with exceptional flavor. Best cooked low and slow for tender, satisfying results.

Lard (Optional)

Kune Kune pigs are especially known for their high-quality lard—clean, flavorful, and ideal for cooking, baking, frying, and traditional food preparation.

Due to the additional labor involved, $25 will be added if you choose to receive lard.
(It’s well worth it, in our opinion.)
